　　史蒂夫（迈克尔·道格拉斯 Michael Douglas 饰）是一位资历老道的特工，儿子马克（瑞安·雷诺兹 Ryan Reynolds 饰）即将结婚，和亲家见面成为了身经百战的史蒂夫目前最大的难题。方便起见，史蒂夫将见面安排在了平时和线人街头的餐厅。史蒂夫的亲家是一个名叫杰瑞（艾伯特·布鲁克斯 Albert Brooks 饰）的足科医生，个性十分温和的他不希望生活中有任何出乎他意料的事情发生，史蒂夫复杂的身份显然不能让他满意，一场意外的发生更让杰瑞下定决心，决不让女儿嫁入这样危险的人家。

第二天，警察找到了杰瑞，并在他的口袋里发现了一块危险的核裂变废弃物，杰瑞因此被逮捕。没想到，这一切正是史蒂夫所为，他不仅救出了杰瑞，还与他一同登上了开往法国的飞机。就这样，杰瑞在愤怒和莫名之中成为了史蒂夫的搭档，不幸的是，充满了惊险和笑料的旅程只是刚刚开始。
