◎简　　介
　　主人公赛生活在巴西的穷乡僻壤，最值钱的家产就是一头驴。当他的驴子患重病时，他向上帝许愿，只要驴子能康复，他会像耶稣那样扛着十字架，一直从家乡到省府。后来驴子真的痊愈了，他便上路还愿。问题是，他最后把十字架给教堂时，教士听了他的理由后拒绝接受。原因是赛不该做这类似的宣誓许诺。赛却不肯死心，一直在教堂外面守候。这样一来，他成了新闻人物，惊动了主教。任凭主教的再三劝说，赛就是不肯放弃。当他的妻子与人通奸的丑闻而引起了一场暴动时，他却在混乱中丧生。赛死后，人们将他的尸体放在十字架上，了却了他生前的心愿。虽然本片获得了嘎纳大奖，但仍然是一部被人忽视的电影。有些影史专家还是给予了影片极高的历史地位。
